What you need to know about packaged units

July 06, 2018

Many times, people don’t grasp all of the heating and cooling options that are available to them. But Forster Heating is here to remind you to take into account each option and determine which type of system will best meet your needs.

One of those choices is a packaged unit. What exactly is that? It’s an all-in-one heating and cooling system installed outside, which means you don’t need to take up indoor space accommodating a furnace or air handler.

When would you use a packaged unit?

Packaged units are wonderful if you are restrained on the amount of space inside your home. Specifically, if you have a crawlspace instead of a basement. With a basement, you normally have extra storage space that can easily house components of your heating and cooling system. But if you exclude that, it can be hard to find an ideal location and you likely want to use that space for a different purpose.

The units are very compact, which leaves a small footprint and makes installation that much faster and easier. They can be installed in the exterior of your home or on the roof and hooks up to the ductwork through a small opening in the wall. It’s an efficient and effective option that doesn’t occupy too much space.

Our technicians can talk with you about the various models, including gas and electric; electric and electric; heat pump; and dual-fuel options. You’ll be able to determine a model that will keep you comfortable throughout the year, regardless what Mother Nature throws at you in Auburn.
