How to keep your Auburn home comfortable this winter11/24/2015The plummeting temperatures in Auburn aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s not hard to dream about the warmer temps, it’s important to remember that you can remain just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a big role in this, which is why it’s so important to keep up with annual furnace service. We do have to bring up the fact that there are only a couple things that will provide as much to your comfort this year as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is suggested to be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a long winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them covered the entire season? Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a few other things you can do to help keep your home comfortable: Energy audit — most energy companies will provide an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need fixed. You could be surprised what areas are letting hot or cold air to escape. Weatherstripping — regardless of the door, doors offer the opportunity for a lot of cold air to come in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way in your home. Check to see if your weatherstripping is all good or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be letting cold air inside. If you uncover any concerns, weatherstripping is easy to swap and could take care of the problem. Recessed lighting — one of the most common areas for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on the age of your lights, they could be letting all the hot air in your home escape through your ceiling. Fixing this is as easy as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape. These couple of tips are just the beginning, but do note that there are other simple fixes you can do once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy projects to complete on the weekend.
